Thailand the most gay friendly nation in Asia and one of the biggest gay destinations of the world. Where lustrous mountains meet the deep blue sea, perfect for that getaway you always dream of.

Offering much more than just the beach and nightlife. This month we will be focusing on what Bangkok has to offer and the resort city of Patong in Phuket.


Welcome to the city of Angels and Asia's biggest and most well known Gay destination. Upon arriving in Bangkok there are many things to do, see and enjoy. From shopping at one of the many mega malls to partying wildly in Silom Road 'The gay district of Bangkok'.

The scene in Bangkok is relatively large with friendly helpful locals that would be happy to show you around and to ensure you get the most out of the hectic city and have a good time out. There are many gay friendly and gay owned hotels and resorts around. Many can be found on gay travel websites. The choices are endless from budget to extravagance living.


To experience the marvels of the city, theres more to it than just the famous nightlife and shopping. Why not? Experience the exciting Muay Thai kickboxing match, or explore the markets for a good bargain. See the glitz and glam of the ladyboy show, or take a romantic dinner cruise down the Chao Phraya river. The 'city of angels' has much more to offer than just there good hospitality. The city itself has rich culture and history dated many centuries ago. The Grand Palace is the most popular tourist destination in the city and most recognizable. For centuries it was the residence of Siam's (Thailand) powerful royal family. The other place of interest is the former ancient capital of Siam 'Ayuthaya' which you can travel along the river.


Many guys go to Bangkok for one reason, to experience the gay nightlife and or to meet exotic gay men. There's nothing wrong with that, everyone wants to have a good time on there time off right?

When you first get to the city you will want to spend your evenings partying along Surawong road, the centre of gay nightlife. Many of the taverns, go-go bars and sexy discos are located in the infamous Boy Plaza district, where the action is hot and the guys are cool.
If you want to experience more than just the darker side of the gay scene, try Soi 4 (4th street). The area has more of a quieter feel, if you just want to go and have a drink in the warm nights. Places of interest would be The Balcony and the Telephone Pub.

One of the biggest gay nightclubs around is DJ station and Freemans, they both have massive production cabarets which is always awesome to watch. Its always a good place to go and let your hair down and dance the night away or maybe even have a holiday rendezvous.

Ending By now you probably had enough of the big smoky city, from getting a bargain at one of the malls to experience what the nightlife has to offer. Now its time to relax and enjoy what time is left you have of your holiday.


Phuket, located in southern Thailand. Just an hours flight from Bangkok. Phuket is surrounded by the warm and blue Andaman sea to the west and the gulf of Thailand to the east and enjoys an abundance of beautiful beaches and gorgeous islands. Phuket is the pearl of southern Thailand and is a must see for sun and sea gay addicts.

Patong beach is the busiest of all the islands around with a gay nightlife you would never expect anywhere. The paradise complex the focal point of the gay scene offering everything from saunas and restaurants to go-go bars and a busy gay disco.

The most famous beaches on Phuket island are Patong, Kata and Karon. Kata and Karon are the most popular among package tourists. Bang Tao Beach at the north end of the island is the resort area where you find the most luxury resort hotels.

The ever friendly and smiling Thai people are always warm and are always willing to help. This might be a bit cumbersome in the beginning if you are visiting from a country where you never really expect help or never talk to strangers without a purpose. The real culture shock will however not strike you until you are back home and you start to realize the difference.


The Phuket Gay Pride Festival in the middle of the high season on 1-3 February has a grand parade and a lot of street parties. There are also plenty of outdoor gay activities.

The Songkran Festival is in the middle of April and celebrates the Thai New Year.

Phuket Gay pride, 'The Gay festival' began in 1999 and its organizers were commended for having very successfully brought Phuket's Gay community together for the first time ever.

Apart from the festivals throughout the year. You can also go elephant trekking through the jungles or go out sea canoeing or go snorkeling with hundreds of tropical coral fishes and explore the transformation of the rocks and hidden caves.


After the beach, why not check out what the nightlife has to offer. Connect is a place of interest and is popular among the locals and tourists and is very open.

Nightlife in Patong, there is no gay scene outside Patong Beach and the gay scene in Patong has been rapidly transformed over a couple of decades from one go-go bar featuring only boys, to a vibrant modern gay beach scene.

Restaurants in Patong is half the pleasure of relaxation. Don't be afraid to try the local dishes. Thai food varies from region to region, much more different to Thai restaurants in western society. If you can't take the heat avoid the red and green chillies, if your stomach can't handle it, it can be deadly.

Avoid the big tourist restaurants and try the taste of the local small restaurants instead. Not all Thai food is spicy, but if you like it hot. You wont be disappointed.

You can also go elephant trekking through the jungle or try out sea canoeing. There is also a very popular Gay-Only Day Tour to a small private island.

On this trip you can enjoy snorkelling with hundreds of tropical coral fish and a beach barbecue is laid on for lunch. After lunch you can experience the island with all its rock formations. You never know who you will find behind the next rock or in the cave. There are no specifically gay beaches and nudity is not accepted, but you will find many Thai men spending their afternoons in the middle of Patong beach just in front of the tourist police and immigration office. If it's a rainy day, you can always go to the new Gym next to the Paradise Complex or the sauna in the middle of the Paradise Complex.

There are plenty of bargains to be had in Phuket. You will find popular brand name watches, t-shirts, computer programs, and DVD's to name a few. You can also order a new suit from the tailor, buy new glasses or even visit the dentist at a very low cost.

Conclusion

Phuket has bars with cabaret shows, go-go boys, sexy shows, bars and restaurants. Almost all have Thai men who would like to show you around.

Patong or Phuket island is turning into a wonderful gay recreation area, offering good accommodation and entertainment to meet all budgets and tastes.
